Windsor Triathlon
Sunday 15 June 2008

The wonderful sporting festival of triathlon returns to Windsor on June 15 when the NOKIA Windsor Triathlon takes centre stage in the town.

Voted British Triathlon’s “Event of the Year” for a record seven times, the triathlon has become one of the most spectacular and successful events to be held in Windsor. Now in its eighteenth year, the event continues to grown both in size and importance and we are expecting over 2,400 competitors again this year. The action begins at 6am with the river swim, and by 10am the streets of Windsor and Eton will be seething with triathletes!
This year, the event will be filmed for an hour long programme on Channel 4 TV. A great opportunity to show Windsor off to the world!

The NOKIA Windsor Triathlon can boast an outstanding setting, with the historic backdrop of Windsor Castle, Eton College and the majestic River Thames. The river swim is followed by a bike course that takes in a number of villages around beautiful Berkshire and returns through Windsor Great Park. The multilap run course winds around the Great Castle, over Eton Bridge and along Eton High Street, passing the famous Eton College and taking in 900 years of British history.

There will be several town centre road closures in Windsor and Eton while the event is in progress. Traffic diversions will be in operation to avoid the closure area, however, access on foot to the town centre and the Castle will be maintained. River Street and Castle Car Parks will be closed until just after noon, but all the other town centre car parks will be operating as normal.

Exactly the same as in previous years, the roads to be closed are Barry Avenue, Goswell Road, River Street, Thames Street, Thames Avenue and Eton High Street. One lane of Datchet Road will remain open at all times for two-way traffic. Out on the bike course, most of Drift Road will be closed as well. The closures will be between 6am and 12 noon on Sunday 15 June 2008.

It is strongly advised that spectators should park their cars at Windsor Boys School and walk into Windsor from there. The best places to view the action are in Thames Street in front of the Castle or in Eton High Street. See the website for more information and maps of the course:
