Some 300 marching troops, eight mounted troops and the band of the Blues and Royals will be on parade - so there will be lots to see for both residents and visitors. The parade will leave Combermere Barracks at 10.24am and arrive outside the Corn Exchange at the Guildhall at 11am where the salute will be taken by HRH The Princess Royal, accompanied by Mayor of the Royal Borough Cllr Catherine Bursnall and General Sir Richard Dannett, former Army Chief of the General Staff. Cllr Bursnall said she was delighted by the prospect of the freedom parade in Windsor. She said: "The nation owes a great debt of gratitude to our troops and it is a source of great pride to the Royal Borough that we have such close links with a number of Army regiments. The fact that the Household Cavalry has chosen to exercise its right to parade through Windsor once again will mean we can all pay tribute to our troops by turning out to watch what I know will be a fantastic event." After the salute the parade will continue up Castle Hill, St Albans Street, Park Street and through Cambridge Gate into the Long Walk of Windsor Castle where a private memorial service will be held for troops who have lost their lives in Afghanistan and a medal ceremony for those who have returned from active service there. The parade back to barracks will be via the Long Walk, the A308, Bolton Road and St Leonards Road. |
