LEGOLAND PROVE TO BE THE BATTER SIDE!
With frying pans at the ready, Legoland’s Captain Brickbeard's Beauties showed they had the key ingredients needed to win the prestigious Flippin’ Windsor & Eton Pancake Challenge 2010 on Tuesday. Team members from the one of the UK’s top attractions – Alison Bledge, Becky Head, Hannah Lambert and Kate Alija – beat eight teams (including the Christopher Wren Hotel and Nando's) to whisk away the 2010 title. Large crowds gathered in Windsor Royal Shopping on Tuesday morning to witness the spectacle of grown men (and women) in rollers, headscarves, lipstick and frocks battle it out in the hotly contested heats. Children from St George’s School were there to give welcome support to their team – Sexy Saints (featuring George – and others!), whilst shoppers and unsuspecting tourists on their way to the Castle soon found themselves drawn into the excitement of the almost- gladiatorial knock-out. Keeping order for the day was MC Paul Roach, (aka the Windsor & Eton Town Manager): Chairman of the Windsor and Eton Town Partnership, Cllr Colin Rayner said: “Once again our local businesses have picked up the gauntlet we’ve thrown down for them. I can see that some advance training and cunning planning has gone on this year amongst the teams…and maybe just a little bit of dress making!” “Thanks go to all 19 teams that took part, and to the businesses that put up those teams. My thanks also go to the Mayor, Cllr Jesse Grey, who officially started each race.” More than £1,000 is expected to be raised from the Pancake Challenge with the funds shared between the Windsor Christmas Lights Appeal and Thames Hospicecare. Sue Watts, Centre Manager of Windsor Royal Shopping, the main sponsor of the event, presented all of the Medals and trophies and thanked all of the teams taking part: She said: “This is the third year we have supported the Pancake Challenge and words simply can’t describe the excitement and buzz the shopping centre has when the event is taking place. It’s a hugely popular event, and a fun way to raise funds for the town and charities.” To register interest for next year's Flippin’ Windsor & Eton Pancake Challenge 2011 please contact Paul Roach on paul.roach@rbwm.gov.uk or call 01753 743921. |
