HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY OPERATIONAL CASUALTIES FUND

Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund

Welcome back after a summer break! While the HCOCF has not been actively fundraising in August, we have been continuing the campaign to raise £1.5 million by October 2011, with an overall target to raise £3 million in 4 years. Here is the September edition of the Household Cavalry Operational Casualties Fund (HCOCF) newsletter, in which I would like to highlight a number of new initiatives, and draw your attention to a busy forthcoming events schedule between now and Christmas 2010.

At present we have raised approx. £400,000, with some financial grants having been madeto our casualties in recent weeks. We have approximately £1m pledged, proving that this fundraising campaign is both successful and providing for the real needs of our casualties.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Tim Atkin, Robert Gibbs, Lance Corporal of Horse Heyes (The Blues & Royals) and Trooper van der Walt (The Life Guards) for hosting the Harlequins rugby squad of 40 players, who descended onto Horse Guards for their pre 2010-2011season photo shoot in August.

The HCOCF will be represented at the Harlequins vs Saracens match on the 7th May 2011 at the Stoop and it is hoped that injured members of the regiment and injured Harlequins players will be able to benefit from, and share, each others experiences with a common aim of positive recovery and rehabilitation. We wish Harlequins a successful season.

Forces Foxes calendar 2011

The next three months promises to be very busy, with several upcoming high profile events including:

1) The launch of the Forces Foxes calendar in aid of HCOCF and Combat Stress http://www.forcesfoxes.com

2) Fashion For The Brave – HCOCF has teamed up with The Soldier’s Charity (ABF) and Help 4 Heroes (H4H) to connect the fashion industry to military fundraising. Damien Lipman (ex LG) and James Black have organised a glittering charity dinner and auction on 26th October 2010, at The Dorchester, Park Lane, London.

I would like to ask you to consider attending yourself, or at least forward a “Save the Date” to a friend or even business who may wish to be represented on the evening. Tickets are £1000 each and represent good value for money with 60% of the proceeds will come to HCOCF and the remainder distributed between the other two military charities.

3) The Reading Lions Club are hosting a Heroes Dinner at Combermere Barracks, 27th November 2010. There are still tables available. The organiser, Mike Bonner is looking for additional auction prizes and another corporate sponsor is being sought. Please e-mail Mike at info@flightbinder.com if you are able to assist.

Remember the vision of the HCOCF is to reinvest in the soldiers and families of those personnel killed or injured on operations. Its purpose is threefold and can be remembered as the 3R’s:

1) To provide financial or material support for the recovery of injured soldiers beyond that provided by the military system.
2) To assist in the physical and emotional rehabilitation of injured soldiers and their dependants, allowing a return to normality in so far as is possible.
3) To directly support the reintegration into the community of injured soldiers, and the dependants of those killed on operations.

Crucially, I am working to expand awareness of the HCOCF and the present campaign. We are aiming to brief the entire Regimental family over the coming weeks, be they ex-Household Cavalrymen, family members, or just friends of the Regiment. If you are aware of anyone who may be interested in the HCOCF and receiving this newsletter then please do forward it to them and encourage them to subscribe to our mailing service by completing the details on the registration form: Mailing Service Registration

I am available to answer any questions you may have and welcome your continued support and fundraising efforts, especially as the Household Cavalry return to Afghanistan in just a few weeks time.

Alistair Galloway
Chief Executive HCOCF
